buy bye 2004

Rog posted in

I hope everyone has a good and safe New Year's Eve. Of course, I'm working until after midnight, but then I'll be spending some quality time with Pain.

My output here on my blog has been muted lately, partially due to working long hours over the holidays and partially because I'm so stunned with the events of the tsunamis that there just isn't much to say.

Scared of Santa

Rog posted in

Via Darren Barefoot:

This is awesome. A collection of submitted photos of children that are scared of Satan, er Santa.

Santa is almost as bad as clowns.

Truth be told, depending on how your children react to strangers, I think it's rather traumatic to just drop your child on a strange man's lap and then step back to take photos. What a bizarre tradition.

Spreading the cheer

Rog posted in

Oh joy. Lots of technical problems at work during the wee hours today, I suspect in large part because everyone has been so rushed to get tasks done before taking off for Christmas vacations. I soooooo do not enjoy having to phone on-call programmers and business people at 5am on Christmas.

Best Christmas ever?

Rog posted in

Well I don't know about that, but all in all it's not so bad.

I'm working 7pm to 7am over Christmas Eve into Christmas morning, getting paid good time for that. Then I'm going to sleep in for Christmas day. Sleep glorious sleep. When I get up I plan on completing as many of the Christmas quests in World of Warcraft as possible (I'm hoping to get the Snowman quest but I suspect my level is too low).

For gifts, I bought Amira's over a month ago (counting that b-day & Christmas). Amira's family get packs of Pirates of the Spanish Main. Pain's family gets chocolate. Pain herself already got WoW, as did Nelg & Lurch (Nezgar should let me know if he wants to play). No Name Yet and jhezika got Gloomy Bears (which I still have to deliver). So I'm mostly covered on gifts, the rest of you I'll trickle my gift giving over the next while, but feel free to bitch if you didn't get anything.

Looking forward to spend my days off with Pain, after Christmas. =D

Reese's Big Cup

Rog posted in

Sometimes a dumb processed food product (example A, example B) will catch my eye and curiousity will kill my inner-cat. Against my better judgement I just tried a Reese's Big Cup.

The basic idea of the Big Cup is the cup is about 2.5 times the height of a regular peanut butter cup. In other words, they're friggin' huge.

I feel ill.

That stuff inside the Reese's Peanut Butter Cups just isn't really peanut butter, it's more some sort of peanut & sugar combination that should really only be eaten in the original smaller portions.

I'm not bored if you're not

Rog posted in

I'm wondering if anyone is finding my little space on the net here boring lately?

Basically the whole updates of what's happening in my life have been reduced to work, sleep and playing games. Even the games themselves have reduced to just the few (you could easily guess those), since I'm no longer very active within the videogame industy.

I've also stopped being such a heavy duty activist for issues like Internet privacy and well, computing activism in general, because the massive weight of the majority that disagrees with me did eventually grind me down. Not that I ever posted too much of that directly here anyway, because I never intended this space to get too heavy.

I could write a whole lot more about some deeply personal stuff, but I'm not going to. I don't feel like being very heavy in that category either.

So what you're left with is the aforementioned online game talk, my tendency towards consumer whorism and the occasional snapshot.

I'm hoping for a quiet Christmas.

My adventures in City of Heroes

Rog posted in

Screenshots from City of HeroesAs a nice cap to my adventuring in City of Heroes thus far, I've added a photo album of my favourite screenshots from the game.

Some of the shots are amusing and others just highlight my various characters and the heroes that I've teamed with. I don't think I've ever felt such comradrie in a game before and I've played many many multiplayer games (since pre Doom folks). In a couple of years those screenshots will be quite the nostalgia for me.

A warm Christmas

Rog posted in

Yay, the workcrew downstairs finally have our furnace working again. So I'll be all nice and warm, just in time for the coldest weather and that whole holiday thing.

In other news, I've still got my massive hypertension headache. Tried to work today, can't concentrate for shit. Frustrated co-workers and then going home early. Oh the joy [/sarcasm].

Luckily I have the next few days off, so I don't need to add work-stress to my already inherent-stress, holiday-stress and family-stress (not even going there!). My doc's orders are to relax, play a game (he suggested Solitaire, I think more likely I'll play some World of Warcraft), read a book and well, relax some more.

Ugh, this is not good.

Rog posted in

My poor luck with health is continuing and I'm very frustrated about it. I currently have a hypertension (the gentler term for high blood pressure) headache that's THIS BIG.

I've been in bed most of the day, but they're doing construction again downstairs, ugh. When they were finally done I collapsed and slept like the dead. Now I'm holding my head and puttering around the house, but I just want to go back to sleep.

Why they call it WoW.

Rog posted in

I just took my first Gryphon ride in World of Warcraft. It was breathtaking and glorious. Heh, I'm such a tourist.

Also, today while fishing in the game I caught a 19 pound trout that can be wielded as an off-handed weapon. Niiiiiice.
