Starcraft MMO?

Rog posted in

Blizzard will be announcing a new game at their Korean Worldwide Invitational on May 19th, just over a week away. The obvious expectation of course is a long-overdue Starcraft 2. But more than a few people believe that they will be unveiling a Starcraft MMO, a sort of World of Starcraft.

The very valid point made by Tycho is that once they've opened up the can of worms of selling games as a service, going back to a traditional single-box sale may be difficult for Blizzard. Indeed, how do they explain to shareholders that popular Game A makes significantly less revenue than popular Game B? I would bet that there is significant pressure on them from Vivendi to produce more subscription games, MMO or otherwise.

Personally, I think Blizzard would lend themselves a great deal of legitimacy by producing another straightforward RTS. Not that they need to borrow on that credit, they've always had street cred in spades.

Who knows, they could always resurrect Starcraft Ghost or Warcraft Adventures. =)
