New Audiosurf challenge

Rog posted in ·

Ahh these are starting to catch on, we've got our little circle jerk of competitors hammering away at these tunes via Audiosurf.

Since The Real McKenzies were so popular amongst our group for the previous challenge, I'm gonna throw in another one of theirs from that same album.

  • The Real McKenzies - 10,000 Shots
  • The Used - The Bird and the Worm
  • Smokie - Who the Fuck is Alice?

Have you ever been a non-fan of a group and then suddenly they release a song that just grabs you anyway. I have to grudgedly admit I love The Bird and the Worm from The Used, I can't stop humming it and the lyrical imagery gets me too.

"Who the Fuck is Alice?" was one of those accidental remixes that brought life back to a long forgotten tune (read the related Wikipedia article), in this case from glam rockers Smokie whom I usually mistake for Slade. Either way, it's an amusing ditty.

I'll toss up the scoreboards later this week, meanwhile go ahead and strain your fingers beating my scores on these. =)

Audiosurf for Local Talent

Rog posted in ·

Update: I've posted the ongoing scoreboard trackers for these challenge tunes.

  ·  ·  ·

For my second Audiosurf competition challenge, I'm going with a theme to highlight some local Vancouver talent.

It's a straightforward challenge, see how high you can get on the scoreboards of these songs. Pit yourself against our specific friend's list or the rest of the world. My friend's list within the game has half a dozen peeps on it so far and hopefully it will grow as these challenges continue. =)

For my small part in helping these independent bands gain some recognition, here are my mini-reviews for for each song, plus knowing the associated albums should make it easier for you to find the tunes.

  • Pour Decisions: If you don't already know who The Real McKenzies are, here's the gist of it: Scot-themed Punk/Rock. Pour Decisions is from their most recent album 10,000 Shots and the song itself is a tongue-in-cheek history for Paul McKenzie and the band, complete with their signature bagpipe fusion.
  • Evil Ways: I picked this tune from Black Mountain's In the Future because it's their most upbeat, making it apt for Audiosurf. Prog-rock bands like Black Mountain are pretty rare as modern independents and I do love the genre.
  • Big Robot Dinosaur: The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets are notorious for their many Cthulu-related lyrics, but this song is all about Sci-Fi camp. Toren Atkinson's murky vocals have grown on me and lend even more to their quirk. The Great Old Ones album would be pretty rare by now if it wasn't for the wonders of the Internet.

I've settled on making these Audiosurf challenges bi-weekly, or more accurately fortnightly since I mean for two weeks.

If you're interested joining our little competition, post your Audiosurf name or contact info in the comments here. My Audiosurf name (and my Steam ID) is Rogdor.
