NecroRogIcon Archive
Welcome to the NecroRogIcon archive, a collection of loosely connected articles written by Rog between the years of 1999-2009.
I've separated these articles from my regular blog for the sake of giving myself a clean slate, although it's probably not a bad idea performance-wise either.
I've maintained a personal site of ramblings since the web began and perhaps even before (do Usenet rants count?). In 1999 a friend convinced me to start storing the articles and most of them have been since then, here for better or worse.
The articles are varied. Some make me look like a fool, some I hope have insights or info you may find useful. I wasn't extremely prolific, over the decade there are just 1169 articles (9.74 articles per month) that I've kept. I also admit to having removed some articles, mostly due to political debate I grew tired of.
On the whole, it's not much different than any other blog, other than longevity I suppose.
Some of my interests (Videogames for instance) are well covered here, some are not (Kinky sexuality is only hinted at, hah). There's no overriding theme, although I tried at a few here and there for periods of time.
I've converted these archives into static html for sanity, so the search is via Google. Hopefully the search populates soonish on this new subdomain. Meanwhile there is a list you can browse by month.
Enjoy.
Moving to Wordpress
I'm moving off of Drupal and back onto Wordpress.
This is a good time for me to reboot my blog cleanly.
To make it easier on myself I'm going to archive most of the existing content by just converting to static pages and moving the old stuff to a subdomain. I'm not too worried about old links except for a few specific pages. As long as people can find the content I'm pretty happy. I'm hardly chasing my Googlerank these days, I'm mostly interested in supporting my core audience (friends, family + peeps finding any useful info).
So archived content will end up at oldblog.gameslate.com and new content will remain on my primary subdomains: rog.gameslate.com and necrorogicon.com.
I'll port over my existing customized theme, that will be the most time-consuming part.
Since I'm going to completely remove Drupal, I'll have to find a solution for our guild site. I may use Wordpress there as well, adding users as multiple authors.
Comments will be disabled on the archive.
Back from the Sunshine Coast
Nelg, Michelle and I took a little vacation up the Sunshine Coast.
At first we were planning on roughing it, but given the weather and our decision to just plain relax, we ended up staying at a fully decked out 'luxury' cabin. We had a great time and recommend the Creekside Cottage (owned by the Bed & Breakfast: Tuwanek Hotel & Spa), just outside of Sechelt. It was close enough to town to be convenient, but right on the edge of the road limits (provincial park boundary) to feel away from the crowds (not entirely secluded though). The cabin was just as advertised, including the hot tub by the creek and as you can see here, a great view to the inlet.
I took a few snapshots, but as usual I'm no photographer (you're lucky if I hold the camera straight). I'll add Michelle's photos to the collection shortly.
The weather turned out pretty good, sun and light showers that turned out to be a great mix for walking up trails, relaxing in the hot tub, etc.. We didn't end up fishing, but it's likely if we return next year.
Be seeing you Number Six
I was very sad to hear that Patrick McGoohan died this week. The Prisoner, although quite dated now, was one of the most groundbreaking, inventive and all around amazing TV shows of all time. He didn't just act in The Prisoner, he created and produced the unique series.
McGoohan was also phenomenal in his appearances on Columbo, he had an obvious chemistry on-screen together with Peter Falk. And of course he was Danger Man, the super spy which predated the Bond films by two years. I think the first thing I'd seen him in was Scanners, his voice and presence were mesmerizing.

Brilliant, brilliant man.
3 Days Into It
That New Years Question: "Do I take myself too seriously?"
Hah! Probably.
Snow + Moped = Bad Idea
The full version of the equation would be Snow + Moped + No Helmet + Drunk + Bridgeport Rd = Very Bad Idea.
Michelle and I were just starting to doze around 2am when some guy started shouting "fuck" repeatedly outside, in that kind of angry voice that's hard to ignore. Looking out the window, he had obviously wiped out his moped in the fresh snow and was trying to get it started again. It was worth a chuckle at first, I couldn't believe the guy was trying to ride that thing with the snow still falling, but he just wouldn't shut up.
When he did get it started, he skidded all over the road. It became apparent quickly that his lack of control was more than just due to the snow, he was either drunk or had some sort of head injury (since he had no helmet, which could account for the tourette's, we could still hear him cursing as he moved down the street).
When he started circling around in the intersection, blocking traffic (including a passing ambulance), that's when we realized he was a serious danger to himself and others and I called 911. I'm sure it wasn't the only call they'd received about it.
I wish I'd grabbed my camera earlier, although I didn't want to startle him by snapshotting directly anyway, but here are his skid marks in front of my place. Yeah, they're on both sides of the road:
I'm still boggled at the sheer stupidity, this guy had some kind of deathwish. He should have flagged one of the minivan taxicabs (we're right near the airport) to get him and his scooter home.
Bettie Page
Sad to hear that Bettie Page died this week. She was the pinup model and an icon for many fetish fans, whether in regards to kink, fashion or just erotic imagery. Even the photos of her that don't include bondage props still scream kinky.
She was a subject of many iconic photos, but the photographers who took those shots should also be accoladed, including among them Irving Klaw and Bunny Yeager.
Also, if you're a fan of Bettie-esque pinup art, I highly recommend Dave Stevens' luscious artwork (sadly, he also passed away this year).
